Latest Update from Head of School Search Committee

Dear HMI Community,

I want to share the latest updates from the Head of School Search Committee, which has been
busy with the search process over the course of the summer.

First, thanks to all of you who shared your thoughts on what you would like to see in HMI’s
next Head of School, either by attending a listening session or filling out the survey we
circulated. It was exciting to hear the enthusiasm and the range of ideas that everyone
contributed. Working with our team at Storbeck Search, the Search Committee used that
feedback to develop the position statement for the Head of School job, which is available here.

Our search team then spent several months reaching out to education leaders across the country
to recruit a strong and diverse pool of applicants for the Head of School position. On the Search
Committee, we were excited to see such breadth and depth in the pool—it is a testament to
HMI’s past and present leaders that the school is in a position to attract such strong candidates.

After reviewing candidates’ applications and interviewing semi-finalists, the Search Committee
has now selected three finalists who will visit campus during the week of September 12th –
17th. While the process necessarily remains confidential until each candidate visits campus, I
am excited to share that we have a truly excellent group of finalists, and the Committee is really
looking forward to hosting them at HMI. During that time, HMI’s on-campus community will
get a chance to interact with each candidate for two days and provide their feedback to the
Search Committee. At the same time, everyone on campus will have an opportunity to show the
candidates what we love about HMI and why it is such a special community to be part of.

After the campus visits, the Search Committee and the Board of Trustees will meet to select
one of the three finalists to be HMI’s next Head of School. We are excited to share the news
with the community at that point! We will be in touch again in late September once those final
steps are complete.
