2023 Impact Report: Strength in Numbers

In academic year 2022-2023, HMI:

Celebrated 25 years of operation
Served 172 students across the Semester, Gap, and Summer Term programs
Grew our endowment to $9 million; continued to direct 100% of our endowment draw towards financial aid
Recorded a record operating revenue of $5,626,639
Raised $707,632 for the HMI Fund from over 700 alumni, families, and friends of the school
Continued construction of on-campus housing for our employees. Currently 50% of our staff live on campus. Three new one-bedroom units are currently under construction and on schedule to open in summer 2024.

The HMI Fund & Financial Aid

Tuition alone does not cover the full cost of bringing HMI to life. We depend on our donors to fund about 15% of our operating budget each year. The HMI Fund is our annual fundraising effort to fill this budget gap. Donations to the HMI Fund support financial aid, faculty/staff compensation, and campus maintenance.

The HMI Fund makes our financial aid program possible

This past year HMI:

  • Awarded financial aid to 55 students, 32% of our participants
  • Provided 100% free outdoor gear rental to 22 Semester and Summer Term students
  • Purchased 13 round-trip flights and 14 pairs of hiking boots for top financial aid recipients
  • Allocated 100% of our endowment draw to financial aid
