Shoulder Season in Leadville

Recent weeks in Leadville have been characterized by sunny skies and warm temperatures with the occasional intense snow squall. The fall shoulder season here in the high country leaves options for all kinds of outdoor activities. A storm that came in after the 10 mile fun run left just enough snow for MC (Math), Margi (Science), Emily (Math Apprentice), and Ari (Science Apprentice) to get out and go Nordic skiing. Hopes of extending the mountain rock climbing season led me, Dave (Res Life), and Tom (Maintenance and Gear Room) out climbing up by Hagerman Pass. The picture here shows Dave climbing a route that looks similar to what next year’s HMI Gap students might find in Patagonia.
